The lye and water removed or loosen the decades of grime. The final polishing was the 0000 steel wool and WD40.

Let me look I might have a set.Charles DuckworthParticipantRyan
Very nice work; I remember having meeting with Mechanical and Marketing when these were developed. Seems they were used on trackage with light loading conditions due to the bridges.Charles DuckworthParticipantI had a metal motor freight sign that hung in the freight area at the MP facility here in Omaha. I donated it to the archives years ago. The same logo, as a decal, was applied to the doors on the MPTL tractors.
I have a similar bus sign these hung at a station or contractors bus stop.
Charles DuckworthParticipantJoe’s Mopac Power advises the PRR never received them as they only wanted ‘home grown’ locomotives from their Altoona shops. They were switched to MP while still being constructed.

Charles DuckworthParticipantI looked in a period MP/IM booklet titled ‘Arkansas as an Agricultural State’. It mentions ‘melons and cantaloupes’ being grown. It’s difficult to tell due to the grain in the photo but these might be melons being shipped looking at the baskets on the right side of the image. Others may add to this thread but the car number is accurate. The MP owned or leased a small fleet of these passenger reefers but I seem to recall they were off the roster in the mid-1930’s.Charles DuckworthParticipantThe 36000-36024 were built by AC&F/ART in 1946. The two emblem scheme was from 1951-1961.
Source the ART book.
Charles DuckworthParticipantCan you narrow down your question to a more limited timeframe? As example are you asking about the 1940’s or 1970’s? Lots of mergers involved during the decades. Thanks
Charles DuckworthParticipantGregg
Very nice modeling; I’ve been to Ste Genevieve numerous times and missed seeing that bridge.Charles DuckworthParticipantDennis
I thought you’d get a reply by now but the MP never went to Iowa so Council Bluffs was never an option. The last two Eagle magazines should help with your question in more detail.Charles DuckworthParticipantJohn
By the late 1970’s Circular 61 was stored in a computer file that the Mopac used called ‘Administrative Message’ it was an early form of email but instead of being addressed to an individual it went only to a printer or CRT screen. While the earlier C-61 were printed in small books by the time period you’re asking about they weren’t being printed for mass distribution. The end user just printed off the schedules that pertained to their territory.Charlie

Thanks for the reminder. And David H sent me one.Charles DuckworthParticipantUnfortunately no but most SS cars were scrapped by the late 1950’s.
