This exact file is included in a data CD that is offered in the MPHS Company Store.

The paint scheme Tangent chose for these cars is early post-merger and certainly reflects UP ownership even though the two mechanical departments were still mostly separate. A “true” MoPac scheme would have periods after the M and P and the font, if not different would be smaller. Also, you will note the UP car type code (starts with F) which the MP never used prior to the merger.

I may buy one or both of these cars. But, they will get a rework on the decals if I do. I really have no desire to model anything post-merger.

Several stations on the White River got the eagle/buzzsaw logo in latter days. I am pretty certain that Branson got one. In looking at the photos, it appears that the Aurora depot got a new roof at some point between the two photos. I wonder if that had something to do with the sign replacement and repositioning? It makes sense to me.

Given the date of this photo, there are several points worthy of discussion.

I don’t think the UMS and SMU existed that early. They certainly didn’t use those train IDs if there was a similar type schedule. It’s a pretty safe bet that this was run-thru power out of Memphis, but I am not certain of train schedules and run-thru agreements for that period.

Another interesting fact is that this is prior to the trackage rights agreement with the Frisco from Aurora to Springfield. The line was still in place from Crane to Springfield. Does anyone know when the first MP train used the Frisco between Aurora and Springfield? I just wondered if there was a “test” period prior to the actual agreement.

Looking at the photo, I would speculate that the head end of the MP train is a setout for Carthage. That looks like Atlas and Joplin cars in the first five or six. It’s also interesting to see an engine in the old Frisco black and yellow.

I looked at some of the photos in this thread and if you see large numbers, they are post merger. Some follow the MP standard of including the periods following the M and the P. But, as stated, this was applied post merger, probably at the Palestine shops. Even though it took awhile after the merger of the corporations to merge the mechanical departments, the UP influence started almost right away. So, the decal set in question is accurate for a “true” MP car.

I have changed the general settings for the digest. So, images and other attachments should be coming through. If you would like to save bandwidth, you can change your personal settings and stop them.

I appreciate feedback, so let me know if it works for you. I’m willing to make other changes, as well. Not much is set in stone. Just let me know.

As information, I have raised the attachment quota. So the issue mentioned in the previous post should be resolved.

I believe this caboose is currently located in New Mexico. The owner has indicated it is for sale, but he wants more money than I am willing to pay. It is loaded on a trailer and appears to be in fair shape considering its age, etc. He states that his father bought it from the Army and he shipped it by truck from Ft. Leonard Wood to New Mexico.

Thanks for posting this, Charlie. It’s good to see that some of the sisters to my caboose still survive.

Can you supply a little more detail? A photograph or other image type would be helpful.

Thanks for the post. Please, post a few photos. Our convention is in Austin this year. Some attendees might be interested in a side trip to Palestine.
