The brakeman is up in the crow’s nest. Very seldom do conductors have the brakeman snag the orders and the brakeman usually rides on the right hand side of the cab.
clemmie_doris12ParticipantThat’s more than a tie gang. It looks like they are sledding the track. That is a Loram company dozer in front.
clemmie_doris12ParticipantThe convention, this past weekend, was great. It was good to see many of our members and to work with our friends from the C&EI HS. I’m sure everyone had a great time. I enjoyed our guest speaker, Woody Sutton. His presentation was excellent. I’m not much of a photographer and did not take any photos at the meet. Hopefully, others in attendance will post some pictures. Thanks to all that helped produce this event. Your efforts are greatly appreciated.
clemmie_doris12ParticipantHere is a photo of my cab at its new home.
2017-06-25 13.11.13.jpg[/attachment:99oz2nyf]clemmie_doris12ParticipantI am going to guess that the material over the windows on the transfer cab is expanded metal. It was more than likely applied to protect against rocks and other “missiles.” This would explain why it was painted. There would have been no need to paint regular window screen.
clemmie_doris12ParticipantI just finished restoring an ICC EV caboose, number 13569. You can see my posts in another message thread in this forum. Choosing a proper color was very important.
I was able to get a good sample of the paint that was under the sill stripe. I matched it to a chip off of another cab and came to the determination that Imron Safety Red was a near perfect match. I cannot locate the paint chips that I made up for models, but, as I recall, Tru-Color Caboose Red was a match to the Imron color chip that I had. If I were to paint a scale model I would definitely use that color.
It is important to keep in mind that, over the years, different brands of paint were used. That would definitely create variations in color. Also, there are variations between batches made by the same supplier. My caboose was repainted in 1981 at Sedalia, so it was probably slightly different in color than when it was first built.
I hope this helps.
clemmie_doris12ParticipantThe convention starts this Thursday. There is still time to get signed up for most of the activities, but you have to act, NOW.
The Saturday evening banquet costs $25.00. We need to know if you are coming. We prefer that you shop online and pay, but at the very least you need to notify us that you are coming by sending an email to . The caterer needs a head count early this week.
There are still a few seats available for the tour to Salem Yard. Get signed up, right now. The cost is $20.00 which covers the cost of the vans.
Unfortunately, tables for the Saturday swap meet are sold out.
Our commemorative t-shirts are in stock, but quantities are limited. Order now and save money while guaranteeing that your size will be available. The cost now is $18.00. It will be $20.00 at the convention.
Time for reserving a room at the convention hotel with the group discount is long gone, but rooms MIGHT still be available at the regular rate.
Here is the link for the page with all the details: http://www.mopac.org/annual-convention/185-2017-mt-vernon-il.
clemmie_doris12ParticipantThe convention is just over a month away. Have you made your reservations, yet? This is going to be a great convention. You won’t want to miss it.
There are lots of great activities lined up and we will be selling models and memorabilia from several collections that were donated to the MPHS.
The early registration price expires today. And, the reserved room block at the hotel goes away in just a few days. Also, the tour of Salem yard is filling up, quickly. Don’t delay, get signed up, today.
You can find all of the information starting at the homepage. Look for the Annual Convention link in the main menu.
clemmie_doris12ParticipantThat looks like the freight house at Neff Yard in Kansas City, MO. The track configuration and the nearby buildings and streets seem to match up. I believe the large elevator is the one located across the Missouri River inside the N&W (former Wabash) yard.
clemmie_doris12ParticipantDavid,
Welcome aboard.
clemmie_doris12ParticipantLatest Update:
The convention page was just updated – http://www.mopac.org/annual-convention/185-2017-mt-vernon-il
You can register and pay for the convention and all activities at the Company Store – http://www.mopac.org/store/convention-events
Many activities require advance reservations, so get it done, now. You don’t want to miss out. The banquet on Saturday evening and the tour of Salem Yard are two items that must be reserved in advance. We cannot guarantee availability if you wait until the convention begins. Don’t forget, attending the banquet is a requirement to here our keynote speaker, Woody Sutton. If you don’t pay for a banquet ticket, you will not be allowed in. No exceptions.
This is going to be a great event. Don’t miss out.
clemmie_doris12ParticipantI’m with Nate. That looks like Pueblo to me. But, I’m not an expert on that area. Is there anyone else out there that has some input?
clemmie_doris12ParticipantI just got around to looking at this photo. I started my railroad career at Coffeyville, KS in 1978. There are no ifs, ands or buts. This is definitely Coffeyville. Just looking at the details, this was taken real close to the time I was hired. It’s a wonder that my car is not sitting in the parking lot.
The green car is parked in front of the yardmaster’s office. Notice the big windows and the shade canopy. The orange company pickup was assigned to the supply man. This employee supplied cabooses and locomotives. I can tell a few stories concerning the shenanigans that went on with that job.
clemmie_doris12ParticipantUpdate:
The banquet cost has been finalized at $25.00. This cost is separate from the convention attendance fee. The banquet is a separate event and convention attendance is not required. Also, attending the banquet is a prerequisite to hearing keynote speaker Woody Sutton. You must pay for and attend the banquet in order to hear Woody’s talk. There will be no exceptions. You must register and pay for the banquet in advance. The caterer requires an advance head count and tickets at the door cannot be guaranteed. Here is the Company Store link:
