Thanks for the update Bill and for all the work you put into providing the research. This looks to be a great model! Now, if Scott would only choose different figures for the engineer/fireman and lose the ski masks.
December 29, 2017 at 11:37 pm in reply to: Photo of the Week 12/18/2017 – Business Car on Amtrak #8591Gregg LaibenParticipantHere is an image of MP #20, apparently in Pueblo, CO. It has the paint scheme Kevin referenced with the Eagle/Buzzsaw, but I do not have an image of the other side.

Gregg LaibenParticipantThanks Ron!
Gregg LaibenParticipantI just bought a handful of the Tichy MP decals in O scale. However, I don’t have the background on the cement hopper lettered with the “LNE” background. What was the LNE for?
Thanks…gregg
[attachment=0:1qjrxfeg]10211_1200.gif[/attachment:1qjrxfeg]Gregg LaibenParticipantI forgot about the Atlas cars. Modern P:48 is tough to do due to the scarcity of roller bearing trucks. However, there are a couple of guys on Shapeways who have 3D printed parts (truck bolsters) which will convert Atlas 2R or 3R trucks to P:48 width. Norm Buchart at Protocraft is having some 70T RB trucks cast up in brass and are due later this summer or fall.
The Yahoo P:48 group is owned by Gene Deimling and is fairly active; he just moved it from Yahoo to Groups IO. Here’s a link if you are interested in joining https://groups.io/g/proto48

Gregg LaibenParticipantI’m modeling the Missouri-Illinois in P:48. In terms of boxcars, Protocraft made fine brass MP versions of the 40’ Modified 1937 AAR 10’6” IH boxcar (pictured). I’ve also converted a few of the plastic Atlas MP boxes over to P:48. John Smith of Pecos River Brass made 100T Greenville gondolas, although my version is lettered (incorrectly) for CNW. In terms of older models, Rail Craft made 46’ MP panel side gondolas.

I have the PA2, as well as an E6 A&B, reserved. Here are images of my MP E8 in 2R.

Gregg LaibenParticipantThanks for the insight Charlie – much appreciated.

Gregg LaibenParticipantNorm’s cars are beautiful! I’ve got 4 of the Modified 1937 AAR boxcars and just ordered 2 of the ART reefers this weekend. Have yet to paint 2 of the boxcars – going to be spending some serious time in the paint booth this Spring!
Gregg LaibenParticipantGreat stores – thanks!

Gregg LaibenParticipantNice article Bill – enjoyed this installment and your discussion on tools and methods. As a result, have already started researching the Foredom flexible shaft machine.
Hope you describe in detail how to accomplish that nice filet of solder where the roof meets the sides of the car.
Thanks…gregg
Gregg LaibenParticipantThanks Charlie.
That’s a great story about Shapiro’s – any other tales from the M-I?
…gregg
Gregg LaibenParticipantI owe the group a few photos and updates (since it’s been over a year).
All track is laid with the exception of several turntable stalls.
About half of the layout now has scenery of some type – mostly grasses – weeds are still pending. A view block with photorealistic backdrops has been installed between the lead from Herculaneum staging and Shapiro’s Scrap Metal. A few buildings are up, but the Festus-Crystal city depot (painting by Wm Bunch) has yet to be built (awaiting arrival of Grandt Line windows). Shapiro’s Scrap is started – a scale house, fence and lots of junk are still pending.
