Nose problem huh….I’m guessing they forgot the white circle on the buzzsaw, like on the E8.

Thanks for the update Bill and for all the work you put into providing the research. This looks to be a great model! Now, if Scott would only choose different figures for the engineer/fireman and lose the ski masks.

Here is an image of MP #20, apparently in Pueblo, CO. It has the paint scheme Kevin referenced with the Eagle/Buzzsaw, but I do not have an image of the other side.

I will be happy to help you make those two models a reality – holler when you are ready to sell off some Eagle passenger cars. ;)

I just bought a handful of the Tichy MP decals in O scale. However, I don’t have the background on the cement hopper lettered with the “LNE” background. What was the LNE for?

                  Thanks…gregg

I forgot about the Atlas cars. Modern P:48 is tough to do due to the scarcity of roller bearing trucks. However, there are a couple of guys on Shapeways who have 3D printed parts (truck bolsters) which will convert Atlas 2R or 3R trucks to P:48 width. Norm Buchart at Protocraft is having some 70T RB trucks cast up in brass and are due later this summer or fall.

The Yahoo P:48 group is owned by Gene Deimling and is fairly active; he just moved it from Yahoo to Groups IO. Here’s a link if you are interested in joining https://groups.io/g/proto48

If you are interested in any of the above cars, let me know as I have several that I am not using as they are too modern for my era.

I’m modeling the Missouri-Illinois in P:48. In terms of boxcars, Protocraft made fine brass MP versions of the 40’ Modified 1937 AAR 10’6” IH boxcar (pictured). I’ve also converted a few of the plastic Atlas MP boxes over to P:48. John Smith of Pecos River Brass made 100T Greenville gondolas, although my version is lettered (incorrectly) for CNW. In terms of older models, Rail Craft made 46’ MP panel side gondolas.

Bill, I’m happy to see you are on board as a consultant for Scott. I have the PA2, as well as an E6 A&B, reserved. Here are images of my MP E8 in 2R.

Norm’s cars are beautiful! I’ve got 4 of the Modified 1937 AAR boxcars and just ordered 2 of the ART reefers this weekend. Have yet to paint 2 of the boxcars – going to be spending some serious time in the paint booth this Spring!

Nice article Bill – enjoyed this installment and your discussion on tools and methods. As a result, have already started researching the Foredom flexible shaft machine.

Hope you describe in detail how to accomplish that nice filet of solder where the roof meets the sides of the car.
