Gary is going to update the kit with the proper number of stainless steel etched window awnings and window screens. He said having only one window (B end) was discovered too late and the pattern maker is no longer doing patterns. He said he did include window blanks to fill in the end window. No progress tonight for my model.

madonnasuffolk30ParticipantHere is my scratchbuilt version of the Battery box on the rebuilds. I used Steve McVey’s photos as a reference. I guessed on the dimensions of the box. I think anyway it’s a battery box. I plan to use a piece of angle styrene to replicate the metal piece in front of the battery box.

madonnasuffolk30ParticipantI’ve been busy building the KOG caboose model as Mopac 12240 circa October 1979. Some observations. The model is accurate for when the cabooses were built for the KOG except for the addition of a window in the “A” end of the caboose. This can be filled in solid with styrene or a blank that is included in the kit.
As the prototypes were upgraded the tool box under side was replaced. Ensure you model from photos to ensure accuracy for your time frame. The kit includes the tool box which is accurate for the as built caboose. I’m scratchbuilding the version that appears in my time frame.
The stainless steel fret is missing enough side window awnings and window screens. Kit includes 2 where prototype had 8 for each. I sent Gary a message asking about it.
Some photos.

madonnasuffolk30ParticipantYes. the Kadee 50-ton ASF Ride-control trucks #1562 match in my opinion. The Mopac equipment diagrams for the KOG aboose that I have don’t list what specific trucks were used when they were rebuilt. I looked at other cabooses, for instance, the T&P built 2500-2593 (MP 13065-13157) show that they had 50-ton ASF Ride-Control trucks and others with 50-ton ASF Rigid type trucks. I have a good photo of the trucks on MP 12154 that show the ASF Ride-Control trucks and I feel they match the photos of the KOG after rebuilding.
Nate
madonnasuffolk30ParticipantOriginally the KOG cabooses received 30-ton Barber swing motion trucks which the Tahoe Model Works 105 or 205 replicate. During rebuild some did receive new trucks. I’m using Kadee ASF Ride-Control 50-ton trucks to replicate the model during my time frame.
The photo below shows the caboose with the as built swing motion trucks.

madonnasuffolk30ParticipantEnd railings are a mix of wire and PE parts. I’m trying to find a good straight on end view of the prototype caboose to compare to the model. There are many extra parts included with the kit.

I see the end ladders, how did he design the end railings are they PE parts or resin?madonnasuffolk30ParticipantI gave Kevin Love a couple MOW books for scanning that might be interesting for the article. One detailed the maintenance of the equipment and the other detailed what consisted of each type of work crew with stick figure examples.

madonnasuffolk30ParticipantBest roof photos that I have. Ron Hawkins and an ebay grab. Looks like new end sections?
madonnasuffolk30ParticipantWhich road number FA-1 did you see that was repainted to Jenk’s blue? I looked at Kevin EuDaly’s “Missouri Pacific Diesel Power” and it shows that all of the FA-1s were retired in 1961 or 1962 and it doesn’t list any as receiving Jenk’s blue. However FA-2 335 and 382 did wear Jenk’s blue. It shows all of the FA-2 (FPA-2s also) were retired by 1962. I would be interested in seeing the photo of a FA-1 in Jenk’s blue.

madonnasuffolk30ParticipantThank you for posting the measurement file. I just want to confirm the white stripe is 3/4″ wide? It looks wider and I wanted to check.
What is are the blades made out of and the thickness? Thanks again!
Nate
madonnasuffolk30ParticipantTwo of the photos that didn’t load.
madonnasuffolk30ParticipantI believe these cars were previously done in HO scale by TM of ILL as I have one of the kits. I haven’t built it yet, but it’s a very basic athearn blue-box style kit. I would be interested in the car if the Intermountain car is used as a base. Below are the diagrams I was able to pull from the 1976 diagrams plus a few photos of cars in the 114000 series. I have more photos of these cars. Some of the photos are from the early 80s so they lasted that long, but I think they were retired 1982-1985 time frame.
madonnasuffolk30ParticipantSteve,
Can you post measurements of the train order blade to include thickness of the blade? What is it made out of? There is a nearly complete train order signal minus the blades that I would like to help restore. Thanks,
Natemadonnasuffolk30ParticipantI wish someone would pick up the Mopac Beth-clone 52’6″ model and rerelease it. The Mopac had over 2000 of these cars and I want to say they’re the most numerous gondolas on the roster. I luckily was able to purchase two from Sunshine, but would like to get more.
