      Charlie,

What road numbers did these caboose carry in the 1970s? I would imagine I have photos of them.

        Charlie,

The mesh screens were two separate sections. I’ve attached the diagram for the spark arrester and also a couple photos of MP2001. You can clearly see the two separate screen sections next to the rear most spark arrester on 2001. These were originally posted on the Mopac yahoo group, but I don’t recall who posted them to give them credit.

How do you like the Shapeways spark arrester parts? Can you comment on the accuracy compared to the drawing/photos? What mesh are you using?

          Ted,

I appreciate the addition information that you provided. It is interesting to learn the history of the logo.

            Charlie,

The car looks great. I can’t tell a difference in the colors of gray from the model and the upgraded parts.

Here is the results ‘close enough for a color blind guy’ results; formula is just like your grandmother’s old recipes “..a pinch of this and a dash of that”.

Not sure if you’ve seen these pictures of 2600 and 2008.

                  Cade,

If you search on Facebook for the “Missouri Pacific” group, Paul De Luca posted a picture of a train on that line switching at a grain elevator. He mentioned that he worked that line many times and I noticed a few other gentleman posted they also worked that line and they may be willing to answer your questions. If possible, can you post on this group any information that you receive so we all can learn about the line?

Attached is his photo and also a link to the Facebook conversation. I also attached the circa 1931 diagram of the line. The circa 1931 diagrams have the line to Fort Scott, but I didn’t include it in the attachments.

From the 1980 gross ton movement map the line shipped 410,000 tons south and 370,000 tons north.

Something like this? Looks like 1364, 1416 and 1548.

                      Charlie,

I am planning to use the MV lenses for the clear track spotlight, but I’m looking more for the housing for the red lens. I am planning on illuminating the red lens. I know a few companies make specific prototype housings for the marker lights and didn’t know if anyone had a recommendation for this product.

Yes, I’ve been able to find proof ranging from when the GP35s were delivered to SD40-2s. This includes GP38-2s and GP15-1s. It’s actually like the air dams behind the Inertial Filter where once you see them then they tend to jump out at you.

I was able to paint the roof while we still had electricity. Due to the ice storm the power has been out sporadically the past few days. I also painted the smokejack and touched up the coupler pockets.

Getting back to doing some modeling on the KOG caboose. I worked on the roofwalk supports and roof piece for my caboose. If you’re modeling one of the caboose with the roofwalks removed ensure you study photos of the specific caboose you’re modeling as the I’ve noticed that the supports were removed differently on each caboose. The model was missing a few supports so I used Plano supports. I also used the included stainless steel supports, but cut them down to replicate the removed bracket pieces. I drilled out the location for the smokejack and gave everything a couple coats of primer. Tomorrow I’ll paint the pieces red.

                                  Brian,

I’ve seen the non-skip strip shown on Mopac locomotive diagrams but none show dimensions. The diagrams just show don’t paint over the non-skid surface.

The Summer 2009 issue of “The Eagle” has a good top down view of a U30C non-skip strip nose, but a note is the locomotive has a EMD cab also.

However something you might find interesting is that the diagrams do show on EMD locomotives at the raised step on the fireman’s side the step is painted gray and the gray paint goes 6″ to both side (top and the bottom) of the step if that makes sense.
