MDC Roundhouse SS Automobile boxcar

Ed Hawkins shared a builders photo he had of the MP’s SS 50′ automobile boxcars. MDC Roundhouse makes a very close model of this car with wood doors and the automobile ends.

Three of the MP 89000-89049 series are in the 1965 ORER. In 1965, I am assuming still mineral red (faded); would the lettering look anything like photo above?

Here’s two of the MDC cars I built. The MP car was done 13-14 years ago and I used Floquil Boxcar Red. The StLB&M car was just finished a month ago using Tru-Color MKT 118. I scraped off the cast-on hand holds and ladder rungs and replaced them with wire. Thinned down the kits running boards and replaced the trucks with ones from Tahoe Model Works.
