I’m organizing my Mopac locomotive photo files and I am trying to place Mopac switcher 1252. It is not listed in the 1976 Locomotive diagrams, but I did see it in the 1972 summery of equipment. To add some confusion it was listed as a SW9, however there were two SW1200s 1253 and 1254 grouped with the SW9s so I’m not sure if 1252 is a SW9 or a SW1200. I believe the body is the same, but I like to list the locomotives as the railroad listed them. My copy of Kevin EuDaly’s MIssouri Pacific Diesel Power is on the other side of the world from me so I can’t look in there. Can someone look or let me know if Mopac 1252 is a SW9 or a SW1200. Thanks!

      Per MoPac diesel power, MP 1252 was a SW-9, built in4/51 as StLB&M as9190. Renumbered as 1252 and then 1216. It was retired in 2/85. There no SW-1200 numbered 1252. For whatever reason, SW-1200s #1200 & 1201 were renumbered to 1253 & 1254. Gene s.

        Gene,

Thank you for the information. Was there a SW9 1253 and 1254 prior to the renumbering of the two SW1200s?

Yes, StLB&M 9191 became the first MP 1253 and B&N 10 became the first MP 1254

Nate, do you have a photo of this loco? I built a model following photos of others (part of why I selected this toad number) and would be curious as to how close I was. My base model was a LL P2K SW7/9/1200 and did not have the extended range fuel tank. Since many of the MP SW1200s had these, I guessed at the appearance of this one. It’s in Jenks Blue as I guess it appeared in 1978. Thanks in advance!

there’s a light on top the cab, to be honest I don’t remember seeing these. Was this addition applied at only certain terminals?

Some of my early Houston photos from 1975 show gumball machines on switchers, some don’t. None of my Ft. Worth photos show them.

                Admittedly a very small sample….

I would like to know how you folks modeled the marker light brackets at the front corners of the hood. A distinctive feature of MP switchers.
