Martin Lofton (dec) did an article in Railroad Model Craftsman in March 1989 on converting the Dennis Storzek Soo Line boxcar kit into a NOT&M or St.L.B.& M. SS boxcar. Since his article was written Archer rivets have made it easier to add the missing rivet details and Westerfield sells a Fowler boxcar door that matches the NOT&M door. The NOT&M modification is easier than the StLB&M car as the former car had a radial roof that needs to be scratchbuilt. Speedwitch offers the same model as a one piece body for $45 (as of 7/5/15) but you can find the older Storzek on ebay once in a while for under $30. ‘One of these days’ I have a second Soo Line model I intend to convert into the caboose version.
Here’s the prototype shot as reference for the model
