Jerry MichelsParticipant
I don’t have Iola, or Iuka, or Radium, …. most were gone by the early 1980s, or re-purposed and I did not catch them. Jerry
Jerry MichelsParticipantCan someone identify this depot? I believe it is Eureka Kansas. Jerry
Jerry MichelsParticipantSince we are talking about Durand….
Jerry MichelsParticipantRon, I have one (yep as I said, I wish I had taken more). But it is still nice. Jerry
Jerry MichelsParticipantI never worked for the railroad, but in the early 1980s I had opportunities to drive the various Kansas lines, and one of these trips brought me to Durand. I met a very nice lady who was working the assignment, but cannot remember her name. In those days the railroads were very friendly, and she told me a lot about how the operations at Durand worked. This was also the first time I encountered one of the U23Bs with an EMD cab. What fun! A nice fall day, friendly employees, a nice locomotive find, and plenty more tracks to follow. Lots of depots were still extant. I remember being very impressed with the Yates Center depot. Wish I had taken more photos.

Ron,
The MP Station is inside a wye interchange with the MKT coming up from the southwest. The MKT crossed the Missouri River just west of MP Station. Here is the track layout:

Gene, I don’t think this is the MKT interchange, but rather the end of the Boonville Branch/Versailles Sub. The MKT interchange was farther south.
Jerry
Jerry MichelsParticipantRon, The KATY would be to the right, dropping down south as it came off the bridge. The MP/MKT interchange would be to the south. JErry
Jerry MichelsParticipantThis is looking southwest. The wye for the Boonville Branch has the local on it. The River sub mainline in in the front. Jerry Michels
Jerry MichelsParticipantCharlie, is X4378 one of the Howe boxcars? It sure looks like one. With some windows added, the old Westerfield resin kit would sure make a great model. Jerry Michels
Jerry MichelsParticipantThe MP did use old steam tenders in MOW service, even in the steam era. Jerry
Jerry MichelsParticipantYou are right Charlie, MODX was MoPac and WADX was Wabash. Jerry
Jerry MichelsParticipantHi Folks, I get the digest on a daily basis, and in that email, the posts are listed by number. Is there a way to search for a specific post by number? For instance Charlie posted the photo of the Missourian, number 3285. Can I jump to that quickly? Thanks.
JerryJerry MichelsParticipantThis does seem to be unusual. I cannot remember seeing any stations with this sign. It might ahve been a local thing, but it is a steel sign which cost someone something!

Jerry MichelsParticipantThis is an excellent film, but I wish two things. That the filmmaker was on the sunny side of the trains and that the film was in better focus. Anyway, regarding the single herald ART reefer at 21:04 in the film, this is rather important. Few if any in-service photos of this paint scheme exist. In fact, it was unknown, until I saw this film, if the scheme actually existed except for a builder’s photo. Note that the buzzsaw is rimmed in blue. This scheme only lasted a year or so before the “Classic Scheme” with both heralds was implemented. Nice, nice find.
Jerry Michels
Jerry MichelsParticipantHmmm, curious that we don’t have them.
