Joseph BerryParticipant
Nate,
Atlas has a lot of nice O scale. Covered hoppers from early 2 bays up to PS 4750’s including the 3 and 6 bay cylindricals. All the ones I have seen have very nice paint jobs. They also have some 50′ PS-1’s, not sure about 40′ cars.I noticed some nice looking resin kits at the Collinsville RPM a couple of years ago. Be sure you check on availability of modern freight car trucks if you want to do some scratch building. There are several good P:48 web sites I’m sure you have found….the P:48 Yahoo group used to be good, but I haven’t been there for quite a while.
Good luck, Proto 48 looks like fun if you have the room. There is a lot of great looking stuff out there!

Thanks for posting your project.

Can you post the photo of the LOCX car with the ART herald on here…then we can ask if anyone on the forum has any information on the size of the ART herald? Someone might have a diagram with measurements or a better ‘straight on’ shot of the car side.
Joseph BerryParticipantCharlie,
Looking forward to another ‘modern’ addition to your RR. Some of the McKean stuff was very nice…many of the 40′ box cars I have include many extra parts. (doors, ladders, etc.)
I do not have one of the cars you are working on…so, I’m really looking forward to see what you wind up with!
Joseph BerryParticipantCharlie,
Not sure how many MV Geeps had that type of spark arrestor? But the Geep in the photo was originally a Phase II GP-7.
It was involved in a terrible collision at Bokoshe, OK in 1958 and had to be sent to EMD and was rebuilt into what you see here. MV#152 was also involved in the collision and was rebuilt as well. Both units remained at 1500 HP. The two remaining MV Geeps #151 and #154 stayed as built until the MP purchase of the Muskogee Roads. I have read somewhere, that all Muskogee Roads Geeps were ‘dual control”. I don’t know if that feature remained after the rebuild. This unit, 153, had a different type of spark arrestor by 1962.
Joseph BerryParticipantMike,
Thanks for posting. The switcher looks right at home! Very nice looking street as well. Great “bottoms” feel in the photo.

Mrs. Duckworth should get a good finders fee for that……
Joseph BerryParticipantDavid, thanks for the photo’s! They remind me of a GREAT weekend.
Thanks to all who attended….great MPHS meet…again!
All the presentations were very enjoyable, models on display were all excellent, and many nice items at the swap meet.
And the best part was seeing all the folks I knew, and those I met. Great weekend all around.
Thanks to all who made it possible.
Joseph BerryParticipantLooks great, Kevin!
That’s not your ride to the MPHS Convention….or is it??
Thanks for the photo’s.

Joseph BerryParticipantJoerg,
Followed your link to the German-U.S. model railroad forum….Great photo’s of your work! I really enjoyed all of your work, the detail in the scenery is great, all the grasses and plants are excellent. I also enjoyed all of your track work and the tracks buried in concrete look great. The men working in the attic with insulation is a fun scene….
Thanks for posting…Great Photo’s!!!
Gary
Joseph BerryParticipantJoerg,

Joseph BerryParticipantTom,
Thanks for the info…looking forward to your shots of the boxes.August 5, 2016 at 6:33 am in reply to: Building a Mopac GP-18 (newest updates on top of this blog) #8041Joseph BerryParticipantCharlie,
Great luck on the numbers for the number boards.
My favorite part of your project is the “faded blue” effect overall …and all the weathering, with my favorite being the trucks!
Looking forward to your next Geep.
Thanks again for a very nice 1970’s – 80’s project!

Great ‘build’ thread!!! Very enjoyable… The weathering on the entire loco really looks like a 70’s Geep 18.
I think I saw one or two that were actually dark blue…but that was after a repaint and the ‘Eagle Buzz Saw’, so I blocked them out of my mind. Thanks again for posting your build thread. Good info on the decoder install…hopefully, I’ll get my courage up to try another install myself in the near future.

The weathering is very nice. The truck side frames are excellent…they look slimy!!!
In your research, did you see any GP-18’s with plows on both ends? Just wondering. (I really can’t imagine the MP spending the money…) Your project is quite the inspiration, thanks for posting.
