will decal set 87-301 work for these cars?
Joe
jymrpvzdnskxnqtcParticipantRené,
Thanks for the timeline. I have someone who will make me some decals but i need to find the sizes of them over the changes.
Joe
jymrpvzdnskxnqtcParticipantPat, actually I think it is. Ill have to go look for it but one of the advantages of living where no one gives the Mopac a second glance is people bring me stuff like this find at estate sales and such. I think this was one of those.
Joe
jymrpvzdnskxnqtcParticipantIf this is lime wouldnt it be loaded into a covered hopper or am I mixing up my MoP numbers?
Thanks,
Joe
jymrpvzdnskxnqtcParticipantWhile digging around looking for information on the M-I Cabs I found this article about the move. [attachment=0:1zdje99q]MI-15 story April 1970.jpg[/attachment:1zdje99q]

jymrpvzdnskxnqtcParticipantSince the weather has pretty much stunk all winter ive had a fair amount of time to work on the layout. I got tired of seeing most of the track laid but “stuff” piled all around so I decided to work on the Mill #3 in Flat River to at least see how the 2 major buildings would look in styrene. Almost none of the buildings i will need are available so I’ll have to scratch build them and this will be a first for me. Anyway the Mill is up along with the dryer room and loading shed. had to guess on the coal dump since ive never seen a photo of it. Im going to do the upper portion of the mill with a picture but need to find someone better at photo shop to see what i can do. I also did a basic sceniking just to get a feel for it. While I had all the materials out i decided to give the engine house and machine shop a shot in Bonne Terre as well. Pretty happy so far other then the roof on the engine house being too tall. i may or may not takle that later. All the roofs are removeable and i plan to put some LED’s in at a later date. Im also still waiting on some more windows. Im not happy with any of the smokestacks Ive found so far for either the dryer house or the plant at BT so I might end up casting those like i did for the bridge thats buried under the stuff i moved to work on these areas.

jymrpvzdnskxnqtcParticipantI’m at work right now and dont have my notes but I talked to the neighbor who was watching the property a few years ago and he said that the caboose was bought directly from the MI. I also talked to the office Mgr at Six Flags and she stated that when they got rid of the wood caboose they dragged it to the back and cut it up on the grounds. She knew of no records or photos of it but did say she was working there when it was removed.
Joe
jymrpvzdnskxnqtcParticipantIm still trying to get a better diagram but here is a drawing i had done earlier. Im currently fighting the backdrop color, but should have that taken care of by the end of the week. All the track is in place for the #3 mill which will be the first area to be semi-completed. Spread out about the basement is the beginnings of the scratchbuilt #3 mill and drying room along with the engine house from BT. Even though I’m planning on running it as a point to point from BT to the #3 mill I did connect them at the bottom left so I can let one just run. The switches are in for the depot and feed mill at BT and the turn to the Crawley Branch but right now those areas look like a HO scale bomb went off. There are also about 12 caboose builds going on (way to many to keep organized) a gon scratch build I’m trying to see if i can cast and a few Accurail 36′ cars that I’m playing with to see if I can MoP them up a bit.
Joe
jymrpvzdnskxnqtcParticipantGregg,
I really struggled getting this to work. I was modeling a later time when I built this so was only using tracks 1&2 in the eng house and only had 1 track to the incline but it did work. there was lots of fussing on the track to get the tight turns to work and it was still huge. After seeing Genes awesome model of the ferry (and the one at the museum in Ste. Gen) I knew i wouldnt have room for a model of the ferry. I was using a 3 track module with a 3 way switch to similate the ferry. that worked good because i just rolled it out of the way when not in use. The wye on mine was only big enough to turn a engine and 1 hopper for either coal or sand. the boat track was long enough for eng, caboose and 6 40′ cars. It is my understanding that 1 engine worked the boat. after pulling off the boat they would push the cars onto the main where a engine from middle yard would grab them and take them there to make up the trains for the lime works/or mines around flat river or on to Bismark to interchange with the MoP. Im still amazed what they did in the valley at LIttle Rock. If you stand in the middle it was not very big and the notches for Y seem really short but it obviously worked for 60 years.
Joe
jymrpvzdnskxnqtcParticipantHere is the map I got from Bill Hoss a few years ago. I will say when i built it in HO scale it took up a Ton of room to make it run smooth.
Joe
jymrpvzdnskxnqtcParticipantGregg,
There are bunch of new photos there. They show both the car ferry’s named Ste. Genevieve. i’ve never seen so many good ones of the original. it looks like builders photos since it was built in Jeffersonville IN. Also notice how they refer to the landing as Little Rock. That is what my family always called the engine shop/ferry landing. You also found the only good photo I’ve seen of the MI-5000 series gons.
Joe
jymrpvzdnskxnqtcParticipantThere are 20 or so pictures of the Eagle at the Missouri State Historical Society website. I dont remember off hand which train but they show numerous interior shots around 1940. here is the link to 1 of them, http://digital.shsmo.org/cdm/singleitem/collection/imc/id/12673/rec/1

jymrpvzdnskxnqtcParticipantThats a pretty neat sign. What are the dimesions of it?
Thanks,
Joe
jymrpvzdnskxnqtcParticipantI dont know about FA’s but he did 4 M-I RS-3s for me. I dont know if they got access to all of his decals or just the freight cars. He also did some steam for me.
