Nate,
Thanks for making contact with Kadee concerning this car. I would really like to see this car make it into production.
Pat,
The rumor is that Athearn is going to do one in its Genesis line. My advice is to wait for this to happen.
Charlie,
I am very interested in this car, as well. If the IMRC car is correct in all the mechanical aspects, we might have to talk to them about a special run.
The thought of the Morley bridge incident makes me feel ill. I can only imagine the horror that raced through the minds of the headend crew as they zoomed in on the counterweights that were fouling the track. I thank God for watching over me during my career. I had a close call or two, but nothing like this. It is especially sad if the bridge tender did in fact override the signal system and in essence cause this tragedy.
I would not throw away the non-MP stuff. There is probably a UP or Frisco guy that would want it. I would be glad to get this stuff at GBT and then look for an interested receiver.
Pat, I noticed this with your last two posts that had photos. I fixed the one with the Athearn boxcar. I started to work on the latest one with you wearing the GCL cap. But, when I clicked on it it to get the full size version, it displayed with the correct orientation. Consequently, I decided to leave it alone.
I think the issue comes from the device you are using to take the photo. I’m guessing it is an Apple product. I have noticed this quite frequently with the little “i” stuff. They take great photos, but, in my opinion, have some quirky software. Maybe some Apple users on this list can give us some insight.
Dave Lotz will be there representing the CB&Q gang.
I have gotten a response from all the invited groups except for PRR and NYC. Go figure.
Nate,
Thanks for the heads up. I will try to locate those books and get them in the scanning queue ASAP.
I see I’m a little behind with my replies.
The website can easily handle .jpg or .pdf type files. I suppose the choice for us would depend on any “limitations” we might want to try to impose. I like Charlie’s suggestion on offering a low-res photo for free, but charge a small fee for a hi-res image.
We should concentrate on some diagrams and photos that we know we have control of, or items that originated from the MP. Chances are very slim that UP would ever give us any grief on those.
To make it easy to use our current software, we should create categories to place our photos and/or diagrams in. We could add articles by locomotive model, freight car type, building type, etc. It would not be difficult to add photos to these articles. We are a long way from adding an index or similar feature.
All we need is a big carrot, for now. We can get fancy once the new BOD has had a chance to offer some guidance.
Here are some additional items needed for the archives.
The Eagle magazine Summer 1984 issue
The Eagle magazine Winter 1982 issue
We are hoping that some of you long-term members will have these issues in your collections and will be willing to donate.
Scanning the dispatcher sheets sounds good to me. This is something that would add value to the members-only website and not get us into copyright issues, etc.
Hey, Steve. Were any of the cars in your photos used by the B&B gang that roamed the Carthage and Cotter Subs.? All the time that I was working in the Carthage area, the foreman on that gang was Bill Roberts. I can’t remember what they had for a bunk car when I started, but they got an upgrade to a newly converted mail storage car (I think that is the correct description) about 1980.
After a little research, I believe this car to be a type 148XL from MP series 254650 – 254899. These were built by Pacific Car & Foundry as lot 2866 in 1978. If this info is correct, the car was possibly originally numbered as MP 254705.
Here is the link to a photo that I found of the 254803 with FSR reporting marks.

About what year would Mr. McKinley have left railroad employment? I remember seeing this drawing on reefers that had to have been done in the 1990s. Is there a possibility that there is/was a Bozo Texino II?
