I’ve only seen the Iron Mountain shown on the place on the few examples I’ve come across. Was not even aware of the MP variation. Thanks for the posting.
This is a tough one to make a call on. I can see some dies being little used that came out of the smaller depots so the wear could be minimal. Many of the dies I saw (mostly the Comos brand) were well used as after the passenger service was discontinued the agent or cashier continued to use the dater to receipt bills of ladings and other documents requiring the Mopac name, location and date. The one at Wichita was closely guarded by the chief clerk (locked up every evening) as every manager that saw it wanted it.
I can see too why someone would clean these as the dirt and ink residue would build up on the die making it a mess to handle in a collection. The few daters I bought came from railroaders so I at least know their origin.
A little change in subject. At the larger stations were there were multiple cashiers or ticket sellers each had their own die marked with a letter for auditing purposes.
Did any of the other class 1 railroads use a similiar designed caboose, if there is we might approach a resign manufacturer to see if they’d do one for us.
Looking this morning at eBay listings I saw this set again listed with UP, PRR, ATSF, etc. seller makes no effort to tell the buyer this is a fantasy design but at a $20 price I would hope most buyers would know what they are buying.
Very nice! How did you get interested in the Mopac?
Pat
go to Speedwitch.com and he has four of the Soo Line SS boxcars for sale at $45 each. This is a one piece body resin kit that can we converted into the NOT&M boxcar. This is a car from the steam era so a general timeframe is 1930 to the early 1950’s. The cars were black with white lettering.

I think we agreed this was a Lou Schmitz photo too.Very nice models. Are these from kits or did you have to decal them?
Very nice work, I’d not seen an O gauge RS-11 before. The Mopac scheme looks great on it.
Here’s two of the MDC cars I built. The MP car was done 13-14 years ago and I used Floquil Boxcar Red. The StLB&M car was just finished a month ago using Tru-Color MKT 118. I scraped off the cast-on hand holds and ladder rungs and replaced them with wire. Thinned down the kits running boards and replaced the trucks with ones from Tahoe Model Works.

This overhead shot certainly helps nail down the color used on the steel ART reefers…at least in 1957.

I fixed the attachment issue its was a setting we needed to increase. Looking forward to your photos.David
Would be neat to find an in service shot of 13546 sometime to include with this shot. The caboose looks pretty good.Charlie D

I wish I knew the location and date. I donated my passenger car diagrams this year to the MPHS or else I’d try and determine the car number(s) from the window arrangement.Charlie
