Since you asked for recommendations…I would buy:
Arkansas City, KS
Conway Springs, KS
Newton, KS
Oxford, KS
Dexter, KS
Weeping Water, NEOr a bunch of others I really don’t need….but it is MOPAC! No real thought involved in this…just places
I’m a little familiar with and enjoyed seeing.Gary Herron
Joseph BerryParticipantJames,
In addition to what Charlie has mentioned in his post, I can include some links to sites that contain a lot of information
on the Muskogee Roads. None of these sites are mine, but all are great reference material.I have never seen any photo’s or paintings of Muskogee Roads F units in any kind of black and gold paint scheme…just the blue and grey used by the MP and T&P. I did see a painting of three F units in a black and red scheme on a calendar.
Unfortunately, I don’t own a calendar like that…I think it was from 1949??? And it was probably just someone’s idea of how the F units would look if painted to match the Geep’s and the switch engine. The link to Mike Condren’s site does have a section on the F units that has photo’s of the ‘as delivered’ paint scheme. as well as ‘in service’ photo’s later in their careers. Also, several timetables and other documentation is on his site as well as the others listed.

Thanks for the photo’s…the branch looks good with the GP-12 on the local. Looks like the gas station should also
offer ‘car washes’!Gary
Joseph BerryParticipantRon,
The models look great. Thanks for the photo’s!

Joseph BerryParticipantFor those interested…there is a Coach Yard set of this train on Ebay now, starting at just over $8,000. HO scale.

Joseph BerryParticipantKeep up the good work, guys…this thread is a very enjoyable read and a fun project to follow!!!
Thanks.
Gary H.Joseph BerryParticipantMike,

Joseph BerryParticipantCharlie,
Thanks for sharing…all the weathering looks fantastic!! Very nice project using a very affordable starting point.
With my hearing today, I couldn’t tell an ALCO from an EMD anyway…but I’m glad Soundtraxx is doing the correct
decoder for these MP/MI rebuilds. Many folks will appreciate that. I do remember seeing these units and the GP16’s.That shot with the GP-12 coupled to the EMD Geep is great…
Thanks again!
Joseph BerryParticipantThat’s right , Pat. Circular 140 only lists locations that are ‘competitive points’. Only cities that are served by
more than one railroad are listed.Joseph BerryParticipantCharlie,
Project is looking good! That puddy sounds great to work with! Did you get it locally?
With the price of the Bachman loco’s, they make good starting points for several of your projects.
Thanks for sharing.

Joseph BerryParticipantI worked one wonderful second trick operator job at Durand…that was plenty for me. I got a late call, 1 hr, (at Wichita)…driving to Durand my muffler and exhaust pipe started dragging (had to stop and wire them up), got to Durand for a turnover…and discovered the first trick guy had a bad day and broke several windows out of the depot. It was about 10 degrees that night. I spent most of the night standing by the stove in the waiting room listening for the dispatcher to call…and kept trying to get the very cold card reader (by a window) to run a deck of cards for a pick-up. (no luck)
I told myself that was IT for me…I wasn’t going back to Durand! I didn’t get a call for 10 days. The next call from the railroad was to report to St. Louis for six weeks of Clerical School on the computers. This after working for eight months. But I did get paid the Second Trick Operator rate…the second highest rate on our seniority district, for the entire six weeks of school!
Also, I got promoted my last day of class and was no longer a clerk/operator.
But I did have to work Durand again…like Charlie, but a few years later, I was there to provide more training on a new computer system. But at least it wasn’t in the winter…and the card reader had been replaced with a cardless system.
I had a much better time!Gary H.
Joseph BerryParticipantThanks for sharing, Bill! Great read and great photo’s……

Joseph BerryParticipantThanks for all the photos, Kevin. I really enjoyed the interior shots!
Gary H.
Joseph BerryParticipantLooks great , Charlie! Thanks for posting your build here on the “forum”. The car should fit right in in the yard at Jeff City….
You make it look like a fun car to build. In service for several years and would up in several different paint schemes.

Joseph BerryParticipantAnd if you want to see an example of the one RG7 mentions, (the Detail Associates part) there is one at the ‘Three Rivers Museum’ at Muskogee, OK.
According to the museum, it was designed and built by a gentleman who had worked at the shops of the KOG/MV.
I can’t remember if he kept working for the RR, or if he went into business for himself after his invention.
This was several years ago and the lady at the museum, I believe, told me his wife still lived in the Muskogee area.
The inventor had passed away. It was a nice item…looked as though it had not been used.Gary H.
