I have been wanting a model of these cars for some time. I’m sure there are others in the same boat. Nate and I can’t be the only ones. If this works out, I hope Stan has lots of these kits in stock.
Pat, I agree with your assessment of the buzzsaw herald on the IMRC model. Here is a picture of a similar car.

I saw these cars in Ellis when I was making regular trips between Kansas City and Denver in 2004.

Pat,
You entered a link for the Athearn RS3 at TrainWorld. I deleted that and entered the text you see, now.
As far as models go, Walthers produced an accurate wood chip car in MP livery several years ago. Athearn’s current release appears to be accurate for an older design car.
These units lasted into the early ’70s. So, they were painted in Jenks blue. The key question is when they were re-engined with EMD equipment. I’m pretty certain some were repainted before getting new paint, but I have no specific details.
Neff Yard was built upon what was originally East Yard. It’s completion date was roughly 1958. I wonder if “CY” was a logical choice for the new yard? “Y” is certainly well toward the end of the alphabet.
Early in my RR career, when we were still using train orders, we got our orders out of Kansas City from the “CY” office at Neff Yard. This office was located on the 2nd floor of the General Manager’s building which was where the dispatchers were located. Would “CY” be an old telegraph call such as the “CF” that was mentioned here?
Thanks to fellow MPHS member, Bill Herbert, I have some additional photos from when my caboose was still in service. Bill took these photos back in the day and was very generous in offering them to me. They are all great shots, but I think the one from Kansas City is my favorite. I spent lots of time in KC during my career. Take a look at the dates. It looks like it went from one end of the railroad to the other in a relatively short period of time.
Bill supplied me with a very good paint chip, as well.

The convention is approximately one month away. So, now is the time to make your final preparations for this event. You can find all the current info here – http://www.mopac.org/annual-convention/109-2015-houston-tx-upcoming
If you are interested in a convention T-shirt, you need to order it, now. This is a pre-order item and there will be few, if any, extras made up. Do not expect to be able to purchase one at the convention. You may be disappointed if you do.
We recently created a listing on the Company Store web page for convention registration. This listing should make registration more convenient for those that are able to use PayPal.
This will be a great convention. Don’t miss it.
Bill,
It is an optical illusion. The two spark arrestors on either side of the dynamic brake fan sit higher than the other two. I’m not exactly sure of why they are like this, but it, obviously, has something to do with the location of the dynamic brake components in this area.Another interesting feature on this engine is the horn. It has a Leslie 3-chime horn rather than a pair of A200 honkers.

Charlie – I think you are right. I’m sorting the photos by equipment type to make it easier to search when people are looking for something (diesel, steam, passenger, freight…etc). I think I will separate out the known Collias photos and make a special collection for him (which will basically be our steam collection), the others can get divided into proper categories.
Sounds like a plan.
Charlie,
Excellent work and you’re fast, as well. Thanks for posting. -
